The Reverse Design Process

For this project, the task was designing 'in reverse'. This entailed developing a range of surface designs over 3 weeks without knowing what product we were designing for.

The product was then revealed: an M5 Coca-Cola bottle.

The choice of which surface design to apply proved tricky - 3 weeks worth of work and 90 designs meant a difficult decision. Eventually I settled on my unusually coloured, unusually shaped plants. I made this choice as I felt it was different from work I had done before, would challenge me to step outside my comfort zone, and would diversify my portfolio.

The design would have to be applied to a supplied template, and would need to be adjusted to account for the shape of the bottle. I also created 3D renderings of the bottle from a number of angles. These include a view of how the bottle would appear under UV lights, as the original bottles were printed using UV ink.
